Data sources & geographic scope

Tides, sun & moon — astronomical predictions from the Mauritius Meteorological Services, Port Louis station (cm above chart datum). Used island-wide as a reference.
Local wind, pressure, sky & UV — live forecast from Open-Meteo at the selected spot.
Offshore swell & sea state — Open-Meteo marine model for exposed water. Sheltered lagoon conditions can differ markedly from the open coast and reef passes.

Main scoring factors

The fishing score weighs solunar major/minor periods, tidal movement, dawn/dusk light and the moon phase, adjusted by local pressure and wind when a forecast is available. The boating comfort score starts at 100 and subtracts penalties for wind, gusts, offshore swell, rain and night passage.

Limitations

Scores, windows and solunar periods are statistical guidance, not guarantees. Live weather covers roughly the next 7 days; longer-range rankings use tide, solunar and moon only. "Enough water over your pass" is your own adjustable threshold, not a known safe depth for any particular pass. Always check the MMS heavy-swell warnings before going to sea.
